A retainer assembled in a ball bearing supporting a rotating shaft in which the occurrence of noise from the retainer is suppressed by stabilizing the behavior of the retainer. The pocket (33) of the retainer for the ball bearing is so formed as to hold a ball (24) by only a tapered part (33a) formed on the circumferential side face of a column (32). Of the circumferential side faces of the columns (32), at least the tapered part (33a) and a flat part (33b) that are in contact with the ball (24) when it rolls are formed in straight surfaces in parallel to the axial direction. Of pocket surfaces forming the pocket (33), axial side faces (34) with which the ball (24) can be in contact in the direction in parallel to the axial direction are formed in straight surfaces that are in parallel to the direction perpendicular to the axial direction.
