The invention relates to a method for reesterifying or esterifying side chai ns in polymers. Said method comprises the following steps: a) a copolymer is produced which is obtained by polymerizing aa) at least one (meth)acrylate o f general formula (I) as component A, wherein R1 represents H or CH3 while R2 represents H or an alkyl radical that can be optionally substituted with functional groups such as acryl groups, ether groups, amino groups, epoxy groups, halogen groups, or sulfonic acid groups, and ab) at least one monome r of general formula (II) as component B, wherein R3 has the same meaning as R 1, R4 has the same meaning as R2, and n = 1 to 40, and b) reesterifying or esterifying the carboxyl group containing the radical R4 with an alcohol in the presence of an enzyme catalyzing the reesterification or esterification process.
