PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a mechanical brake always in a state of low vehicle speed without depending on conditions of the mass of a vehicle, the inclination of a road, or the response speed of the mechanical brake. SOLUTION: The electric drive vehicle is provided with an electric motor for driving or braking wheels, and a motor controller that controls this electric motor. When the running speed of the vehicle drops below a speed range lower than a predetermined speed in stopping a running vehicle, torque outputted by the motor is changed toward a predetermined level. A target level for changing torque varies, depending on the total mass of the vehicle and inclination of the road on which the vehicle is running. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
