PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of completely automatically grinding and polishing both sides of glass for liquid crystal. SOLUTION: This method comprises: a step for grinding or polishing a counter substrate by using a sending-out side cassette means 1, a pre-machining temporarily placing table 2, a grinding or polishing means 3, a washing means 4, a reversing means 5, a post-machining temporarily placing table 6, a protection tape adhesion means 7, a protection tape releasing means 8, a storing side cassette means 9, a first transferring means 10, a second transferring means 11, and a third transferring means 12; a step for turning the substrate on the upside by reversing operation; a step for transferring the substrate to the protection tape adhesion means 7; a protection tape adhesion step; a step for grinding or polishing the substrate; a step for turning the counter substrate on the upside by reversing operation; and a step for releasing the protection tape.
