PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which fluorine ions contained in waste water can be removed by adsorption. SOLUTION: Magnesium oxide, which is obtained by calcining magnesium hydroxide at 700 to 1000°C and which has 40 to 200 m<SP>2</SP>/g BET surface area, is added to waste water which is discharged from a semiconductor plant, contains fluorine ions and has pH of≤4.0. Obtained mixture is treated at 10 to 25°C and then is subjected to solid-liquid separation after addition of a flocculant. Thus the method for removing fluorine ions is provided.
