PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for point-of-use generation of chlorine dioxide, by which the chlorine dioxide is generated quickly and at an acceptable concentration to avoid the necessity for subsequent dilution and the necessity for keeping a product non-corrosive to the surface to be treated. SOLUTION: A persulfate solution is reacted with a chlorite solution at≥2 molar ratio of persulfate to chlorite.
