PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control system for an elevator capable of safely rewriting a control program and specification data without stopping the elevator. SOLUTION: An operation controller 1 has a first storage means 11 having a first region for storing the control program to be used, a second region for copying and storing the control program to be used, and a third region for storing the specification data; a second storage means 13 having a fourth region for copying and storing the control program to be used, a fifth region for storing a new control program, a sixth region for storing the results of computation by a central processing means and a rewriting program for control program, and a seventh region for storing the specification data written from a portable terminal unit; the central processing means 12 for carrying out the operation of the elevator; a first interface 14 enabling data transmission with an external maintenance device; and an interface 15 enabling data transmission with the portable terminal unit.
