A portable multimedia device connectable DVD(Digital Versatile Disc) system and a file transmission method thereof are provided to easily download various contents files in the DVD system to a portable multimedia device without using a PC(Personal Computer) by converting a read file into a file having a format suitable for the portable multimedia device and downloading the converted file. A download slot(120) connects a DVD system to a portable multimedia device(150) so that a file can be transmitted between the DVD system and the portable multimedia device. A DSP(Digital Signal Processor)(102) converts a file, downloaded from a DVD inputted and outputted through the download slot to the portable multimedia device, into a file having a format of the portable multimedia device. A control part(104) controls an operation of a DVD optical system in response to a key input of a user. When the control part receives a data file download request from the portable multimedia device connected to the download slot, the control part reads a requested file from the DVD or a file storing unit(106) and then makes the converted file downloaded to the portable multimedia device.
