PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for die-quenching with which the thermal-deformation is little and this method can be applied to the plurality of kinds having different sizes and the deformation and the deterioration of a restrictive dies are little. SOLUTION: The die-quenching method contains: a heating process for heating a ring type article 10; a primary cooling process for cooling without contacting with the die from quenching-state temperature to near the martensite transformation point; and a secondary cooling process for cooling till a lower quenching finish temperature than the martensite transformation point under state of pressing the restrictive dies 11, 12 inclined so as to approach to the other peripheral edge side with the increase of separation distance from one side of the peripheral edge in the axial direction between the outer peripheral edge and the inner peripheral edge. The die quenching apparatus is provided with a heating part, a primary cooling part and a secondary cooling part. The secondary cooling part has: an upper die holding means for holding the restrictive die 11 so as to press against the peripheral edge on the upper side surface of the ring type article 10 whose both surfaces direct to the upper and the lower sides; a lower die holding means for keeping the restrictive die 12 so as to press against the peripheral edge on the lower side surface of the same ring type article 10; and a concentric maintaining means for concentrically maintaining the centers of both holding means for upper die and lower die.
