Disclosed is a process for hydrogenating an aromatic ring of an aromatic ring compound which proceeds under comparatively mild conditions. This process for hydrogenating an aromatic ring of an aromatic ring compound can be carried out in a small facility and places only a little burden on the environment. Specifically, an aromatic ring compound and a nonuniform platinum catalyst are added into a solvent, namely in water or an alcohol solvent, and hydrogen is brought into contact with the thus-obtained suspension within the temperature range from the melting point (ºC) of the solvent to the temperature higher than the boiling point (ºC) of the solvent by 60ºC.
