A system for estimating a fault distance and determining a kind of fault using both-end numerical algorithm is provided to estimate a fault distance by accurately measuring waveform of voltage and current which are distorted at both terminals. A first PMU(Phasor Measurement Unit)(100) and a second PMU are synchronized with a time reference signal of a satellite navigation apparatus to measure voltage and current at both ends of a transmission line. A computer(200) receives the measured voltage and current signals, extracts a voltage of fault transmission line through a loop equation, and deduces an fault distance using a variation quantity of the extracted voltage and current. The computer receives the measured voltage and current signal to extract an arc voltage, and determines a kind of fault.
