An operating device for an electric current applying pin of an electric discharge machine is provided to enable automatic wire connection and application of electric current even when a wire is disconnected during wire discharging. An electric current applying pin operating device includes an upper head(20), a lower head, an electric current applying pin(40), an electric current applying pin operating cylinder(60), a spring(70), and a press pin(80). The upper head has an upper dice(22) for supporting an upper part of a wire(50). The lower head is arranged underneath the upper head, and has a lower dice for supporting a lower part of the wire. The electric current applying pin is mounted on the upper head so as to electrify the wire. The cylinder is arranged at one side of the electric current applying pin, and pushes the electric current applying pin toward the wire. The spring is arranged at the other side of the electric current applying pin, and pushes the electric current applying pin toward the cylinder. The press pin is interposed between the electric current applying pin and the spring, and moves the electric current applying pin backward by the elastic force of the spring when the cylinder moves backward upon the disconnection of the wire.
