An apparatus for expanding the reproduction volume of a ring/tone by using an offset and a method therefor are provided to reduce inconvenience in which volume is reset although a sound source is changed irrespective of the amplitude or characteristic of the sound source and improve a problem in which the volume is not sufficiently reproduced in the setup of the maximum volume by adding the offset, expanding a variable interval, providing the offset according to the characteristic of the sound source, and selectively setting the variable interval of volume. A sound source storing unit(10) stores at least one or more sound sources. An offset DB(40) stores offsets of the sound sources, respectively. A control unit(30) searches a sound source designated according to a sound source play signal from the offset DB(40), adds the offset of the corresponding sound source to a play volume level currently set, and sets a parameter including a sound source identifier and the total gain. A sound source play unit(50) receives the parameter set from the control unit(30), and plays the corresponding sound source at the volume amplitude of the total gain.
