<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soil-improving material excellent in water absorbability which is suitable to greening of the roof top of a building for environmental protection. <P>SOLUTION: The soil-improving material comprises a peat moss, and a water-absorbing material obtained by graft-polymerizing acrylonitrile to peat moss, followed by hydrolyzing, to introduce a hydrophilic group, and a microbial material comprising a substrate and one or more microorganisms selected from the group consisting of EM type microbes, VA type microbes, Actinomyces, lacto bacillus, yeast, photosynthetic microbes, leguminous bacteria and BM type microbes, which are mixed with the peat moss. According to the present invention, a water-absorbable material which can hold highly and homogeneously water content in a soil and has excellent plant-growing effect can be obtained by mixing the water-absorbable material and the microbial material at a predetermined ratio with peat moss, the starting material of the water-absorbing material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
