<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a system starting time by appropriately omitting a memory error check when a system starts, and to prevent a delay in discovering of a memory error from occurring. <P>SOLUTION: The whole storing region of a volatile memory is equally divided to 16 memory blocks which are isolated from each other into four groups. The four groups are made object regions to be checked when a power supply is turned on. The 16 memory blocks are divided into four groups (i=0-3) in which the memory blocks are prevented from overlapping with each other.
