<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress melting loss of a center part during forced regeneration and the occurrence of cracks in a boundary part between the center part and the outer peripheral part at the downstream end part, and increase the extraction ratio of PM. <P>SOLUTION: The cell length of the center part 40 is longer than the cell length of the outer peripheral part 41. Since exhaust gases are difficult to flow at the outer peripheral part 41 with a short cell length, an it is considered that exhaust gas retention time in the cell is long and the temperature of the outer peripheral part 41 is maintained by hot exhaust gases. Consequently, a temperature difference between the center part 40 and the outer peripheral part 41 can be reduced, and the occurrence of cracks due to thermal stress during the forced regeneration can be suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
