PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a covered electrode wire for wire discharge machining, having proper conductivity and discharge machining performance, and to provide a manufacturing method for it. SOLUTION: This covered electrode wire 6 for wire discharge machining includes two or more covering layers 2, 3, 4, 5 on the outer periphery of a core material 1, where the wire is a quadrangle and rounded circular corner parts R are provided at the outer peripheral corner parts.
