METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DISCRIMINATING LEAD DIRECTION IN ELECTRONIC COMPONENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically and accurately discriminate the lead drawing-out directions in an electronic component whether they are two directions or four directions based on the image data about the electronic component.

SOLUTION: The rotation angle of the image of the electronic component is corrected so that the drawing-out direction of the lead of the electronic component captured by an image data capturing means coincides with the X-direction or Y-direction in the reference coordinates. Then, the X coordinate and the Y coordinate of the reference position of each lead of the electronic component are extracted, and the X coordinate and the Y coordinate of the reference position of each lead are normalized so that each of them is in the range of -1.0 to +1.0. Then, after the variances σx2and σy2of respective normalized X coordinate and the Y coordinate are computed, each of the variances σx2and σy2is compared with a threshold value, and the lead in two directions and the lead in four directions are discriminated according to whether either one of the σx2and σy2is larger than the threshold value or not.
