<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink composition for dye layers, which has high dye transfer sensitivity and transfer efficiency, when thermally transferred, gives printed products having sufficiently satisfiable high density, and is used for forming the dye layers. <P>SOLUTION: This ink composition for dye layers comprises at least dye, a binder, and a solvent, and further contains a heat-transferable additive, wherein the dye is dissolved in the heat-transferable additive at a higher temperature than the melting point of the heat-transferable additive. The heat-transferable additive is preferably at least one compound selected from the group consisting of aliphatic carboxylic acids, aliphatic carboxylates, aliphatic carboxylic acid amides, aromatic carboxylates, higher alcohols, thiocarboxylates, phosphates, and polyoxyalkylene alkyl ethers.
