The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for influencing an actual engine torque delivered by an engine ( 6 ) that forms part of the drive means ( 7 ) of a vehicle. The invention relates to an auxiliary function for executing a creeping motion of a vehicle, even in the event of an uphill start operation or during uphill travel. To this end, the actual engine torque (M<SUB>i</SUB>) is determined during an uphill start operation or an uphill travel in accordance with a roadway inclination (Theta*) which represents a roadway inclination in the direction of travel and a brake pedal variable (s) which represents the deflection of a driver-actuated brake pedal ( 9 ) and which cooperates with braking means ( 30 ) of the vehicle.
