It is possible to detect a position of a medical device even if frequency characteristic of a magnetic induction coil is fluctuated by the state of the external magnetic field for guiding the medical device. A medical device position detection system (50) is introduced into a body of an examinee and guided by an external magnetic field. The medical device position detection system includes: a resonance circuit (43) mounted on a medical device (20) and containing a magnetic induction coil (42A) having a magnetic body inside for generating an alternating field; an alternating magnetic field detection device (52) arranged outside the operation range of the medical device (20) and detecting the alternating field generated by the magnetic induction coil (42A); a position information calculation unit (50A) for calculating position information on the medical device (20) according to the alternating field detected by it; and a frequency setting unit (77) for setting at least one of the frequency of the alternating field detected by the alternating field detection device (52) and the frequency of the alternating field generated by the magnetic induction coil (42A) according to at least one of the intensity and the direction of the external magnetic field at the position of the magnetic induction coil (42A).
