<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image encoding apparatus capable of reducing memory capacity for holding transform coefficients for the wavelet transformation of images. <P>SOLUTION: The image encoding apparatus includes a wavelet transform section 101 for performing sub-band division of a first stage, a high-frequency quantization section 102 for quantizing a high frequency component to adjust a code amount, and a buffer management section 103 for temporarily accumulating data, a transform coefficient of a high frequency component resulting from wavelet-transforming an input signal is quantized and further, a zero component is deleted, thereby performing code amount adjustment. Thus, memory capacity for holding transform coefficients for high frequency components can be reduced, and memory capacity in the buffer management section 103 can be reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
