A catalyst electrode for fuel cell is important for enhancing of the power generation efficiency of solid polymer fuel cell. Although the method of coating the entire surface of carbonaceous diffusion layer substrate or polymer electrolyte substrate with a catalyst has been employed in the prior art, it has been found that two-dimensional or three-dimensional fixing of a microdot pattern catalyst on a substrate leads to, despite a relative reduction of the amount of catalyst carried per surface area, an increase of the power generation efficiency of fuel cell associated with the power generation by the catalyst. The substrates of carbon structure or the like and polymer electrolyte or the like for carrying of the catalyst are not particularly limited, and the method of two-dimensional or three-dimensional forming of a microdot pattern catalyst is not particularly limited.
