<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general-purpose component selection support device capable of facilitating the selecting operation of general-purpose components, thereby shortening the development period of a product and reducing the cost of the product. <P>SOLUTION: In this general-purpose component selection support device for supporting an operation to select any general-purpose component among a plurality of general-purpose components in designing a product using the general-purpose components, information 11, 12 and 13 for identifying every bolt as a general-purpose component and shape information 18 of each bolt are stored so as to be associated with each other, and when a command to display the bolts in a list is generated, display data for displaying the information 11, 12 and 13 and the shape information 18 in a list is prepared, and the list of the information 11, 12 and 13 of the bolts and the list of the shape information 18 of each bolt are displayed within one screen.
