<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide light source equipment for an endoscope, capable of preventing a problem such as overheating of a scope, even if the scope with unclear information on the maximum quantity of light that can come from a light source is connected to a processor. <P>SOLUTION: The light source equipment for the endoscope is for letting the illumination light from the light source come into the incident end face of a light guide of the connected scope. The light source equipment has a plurality of diaphragm apertures with different aperture rates or transmissivities. Between the incident end face and the light source, a diaphragm means for selecting and setting one diaphragm aperture, a reading means for reading information by kind from a storage means of the connected scope, and a control means are disposed.
