<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to perform decoding without increasing burden of processing performance on a controller side while suppressing an increase in the number of items of hardware in an image decoding apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with a general-purpose memory 120 for storing a stream including encoded data and a parameter to be used in decoding the data; an H264 decoding section 111 for using the parameter to decode the data; and a control section 130 for controlling the decoding in the H264 decoding section 111 and the general-purpose memory 120. Further, the general-purpose memory 120 is provided with an exclusive region for storing the parameter.
