Thermoplastic table mat - with deep undercut produced by stamping through annular die

Decorative table mats with a deep undercut are produced from thermoplastic foil by laying an oversize sheet of plastic on a die ring and by applying a ram to push the sheet through the die. The clearance between the die ring and the ram is made equal to the plastic foil thickness if a cylindrical undercut is required. A conical under cut will result if the clearance is made larger. This method can be used to produce any depth and slope of the undercut which may be desired for stability or decorative purposes.
