An error recovery method during DVD(Digital Versatile Disc) reproduction in a DVD/VCR combo system is provided to enable a DVD set itself to check whether a DVD has an error and display an error message and then open an tray when there is an error in the DVD or reproduction is impossible due to an error in a loader. A DVD inserted into a DVD tray is reproduced in response to a DVD reproduction request. A reproduction clock according to the reproduction of the DVD is counted(S304). When a read error of the DVD is generated, an error message is displayed(S310) and the DVD tray is opened(S312). The DVD is checked(S314) and then the DVD is reproduced again from a certain point of time prior to the generation of the read error by referring to the counted reproduction clock if the DVD tray is closed.
