A supporting device for electrical or pneumatic screw cutting tools, drills or millers, comprises two lever rods 13 and 14 connected to one another for pivotal movement by means of a hinge 16 having only one hinge axis 17. One of the lever rods 13 is pivotally supported by an overhead support 18 and above the lower lever rod 14. A receiver 19 for the tool 10 is supported on the lower lever rod 14 for pivotal movement about only one pivotal axis 21 parallel to the hinge axis 17. A weight compensating element 23, which counteracts at least the weight of the tool 10, is attached, on the one hand to the lower lever rod 14 and on the other hand to a point 24 fixed relatively to the upper lever rod 13. This is supplied by a bracket 24 adjustable relative to the upper rod 13, the bracket and lower rod 14 having adjustable location points for the compensating element 23 e.g. a spring 31.
