A multimedia player having a remote control function and a remote control method therefor are provided to remotely control a multimedia management/play program executed on a computer without an additional remote controller by adding the remote controller function in the multimedia player. A function selecting switch(12) selects one of a multimedia play function and a remote controller function. A user input unit(13) allows a user to select the multimedia play function and the remote controller function by using a plurality of function keys corresponding to functions of a management/play program. When the user selects the remote controller function by using the function selecting switch(12), an encoder(212) encodes a key signal of the function selected through the user input unit(13). A wireless signal transmitting unit(211) converts the signal encoded by the encoder(212) into a wireless signal, and transmits the wireless signal to a remote controller receiving device(1b).
