<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic sintered compact densified by low temperature sintering and having high hardness and strength and to provide a cutting insert made of the ceramic sintered compact and having excellent wear resistance, chipping resistance and the like and a cutting tool, for example, a milling cutter provided with the cutting insert. <P>SOLUTION: The ceramic sintered compact contains 20-80 vol.% carbonitride of titanium, tungsten and zirconium, 80-20 vol.% aluminum oxide and inevitable impurities. The cutting insert is made of the ceramic sintered compact.
