<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile device and an instruction input method that enable input of instructions by a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: When it is determined that an ellipsoidal body 2 is not moving, an instruction input mode is asserted in which a distance from the ellipsoidal body 2 to an external object inputting an instruction is detected by a distance detection part 18 for detecting a distance from the ellipsoidal body 2 to a movement surface K1 to detect first and second obstructions while the ellipsoidal body 2 is moving, the input instruction is then identified by the detected distance, and the ellipsoidal body 2 is controlled accordingly. Without special operation keys for inputting instructions, the distance detection part 18 for detecting a distance from the ellipsoidal body 2 to the movement surface K1 is also used for a user's instruction input.
