PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an internet facsimile machine which can easily confirm whether an image outputted from a receiving side is routed via the Internet or through telephone lines or not without making the machine structure complicated. SOLUTION: The internet facsimile machine is provided with a decision means for deciding whether the inputted destination is a telephone number or electronic mail address, when a destination is a telephone number, the set telephone number of own equipment is set as routing information, and when the destination is an electronic mail address, the set electronic mail address of own equipment is set as the routing information. Scanned image data are stored in a RAM succeeding to image compression data of the routing information while compressing the read image data. When the destination is the telephone number, the compressed image data are transmitted to the destination in accordance with a facsimile procedure.
