NEW MATERIAL:A plenoxypentenol derivative of formula I [R is group of formula II (X is halogen or trifluoromethyl; y is H or halogen), or group of formula III]. EXAMPLE:4-[4-(4-Trifluoromethylphenoxy)phenoxy]-(2)-pentenol-(1). USE:Herbicides having higher selectivity than the well-known phenoxyalcohol devivative free from azeotropic phenomena with water due to the C-C double bond in the molecule and doing damage to true grass crops in the soil by volatilization of the compound due to low vapor pressure. Great safety to completely grown crops, e.g. wheat or barley. PROCESS:A phenol is reacted with a 4-halogeno-2-penten-1-ol in the presence of a base to give the objective compound of formula I.
