A component consisting of a metal part (3) and plastic parts (4, 7), e.g. ribs (4) for a structurally stiffened region (5), has a continuous coating of plastic (9, 13) applied in the joint region. The plastic can be a melt adhesive placed by injection molding, or it can be applied by a nozzle or by a continuous lacquering process to sheet metal in coil form. Alternatively the coating can be applied after shaping the metal part. An independent claim is included for hybrid components made in this way. The thickness of the plastic layer is between 20 micrometer and 1 millimeter.
