The method involves repeatedly transmitting an ultrasonic signal to an ultrasonic receiver (5) by an ultrasonic transmitter (4), which is arranged in an area of a backrest (6) and a seat cushion (7). Elapsed times of the signal that depend on momentary position of the driven backrest and the seat cushion are determined. An overlaid movement is implemented by the backrest and the seat cushion. The function controlling the backrest and the seat cushion is implemented by determination of change of position of the backrest and the seat cushion. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing a method of controlling a function of an electrically driven part of a vehicle.
