The production of perforated tearing lines (14) in a sandwich cover structure (12) for motor vehicle airbag, where the perforation is carried out in the cover structure by a laser beam in which a stable pressure is applied using a water or oil, which is mixed with an abrasive medium. The cover is made from leather, plastic skins, foils and fabric. Liquid jet is continuously supplied into the view side (10) and of the backside of the cover. The hole- spacing and the hole-diameter of the perforation are not constant over the tearing line. The hole (16) is filled with a dyed paste.
