The rebound stop (3) has an elastically deformable element (7) arranged in a base of a body shell of a motor vehicle. A flexible link (8) e.g. steel cable or strap, is interposed between the shell and a deformable crosspiece (22) according to an axis. The link exerts a tractive force on a piston (6) compressing the deformable element during rebound movement of a wheel of the vehicle. An elastic element (23) allows the link to be retracted into a preset limited volume around the axis during setting movement of the wheel and to be elongated during exertion of the tractive force.
