The fitting to connect a side pipe to a main drainpipe (20) has a tubular shaft (13) inserted into an opening drilled into the main pipe, with a sleeve (14) to take the side pipe. The shaft and sleeve are of a hard material e.g. stoneware, concrete or polymer concrete, carrying fixed seals (11,12) at the sleeve and shaft. The shaft seal is a sealing collar (21) tensed around the shaft with an inner bead (26) locked into a groove (25) around the shaft. The sleeve seal has a collar (16) supported by a sleeve end surface (19).
