The surface unit has a base plate (3), and an opaque laminate layer (5) that is applied on a surface of the base plate. The base plate exhibits a recess (7), which is covered by the laminate layer. A translucent component is fitted into the recess. The translucent component is closed with a surface (3.1) of the base plate. Each recess exhibits a circumferential notch, which forms a shoulder, where the translucent component overlies on the shoulder. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a decorative surface unit.
