A double-screw extruder has a bimetallic insert to provide the highly wear-resistant internal lining of the twin barrels; the insert has accurate, constant dimensions over its entire length so that it can be readily fitted into the surrounding casing and has continuous longitudinal beams at the constriction lines of the figure-of-eight cross section. These beams can be tightened into the surrounding casing by means of screws (not shown). The two parts of the bimetallic insert are firmly bonded together at their mutually opposite faces and also in this zone to the two longitudinal beams, so that there is no gap at all in this region. With this arrangement, a bimetallic insert can be easily and inexpensively made to a high degree of accuracy since all the components can be accurately machined and accurately fitted together. To fit the insert into the surrounding casing, it is only necessary to pinch it together slightly at the two beams, then slide it into the casing and tighten up the beams by pulling them apart by means of fixing screws.
|
