The claimed preservative (conserving agent) is particularly useful as a paint preservative for motor vehicles. Its use results in a weathering-resistant, shiny protective film being formed on the substrate. It has the following composition: A) 1-15 (3-8) % by weight of optionally amino-containing polysiloxanes having an amine number of 0-0.6 (according to DIN 16945) and an average molecular weight of 1500 to 20,000, B) 0.1-1 (0.2-0.8) % by weight of a water-soluble, nonionic surfactant from the class of the polyoxyalkylene derivatives, e.g. oxo alcohols (C13-17) + 13 EO or nonylphenol + 9 EO, which has a melting point below 40 DEG C, C) 0.5-20 (1-10) % by weight of polyvinylpolypyrrolidone as tablet disintegrant, D) 97.5-64 (95.8-81.2) % by weight of sorbitol as tabletting agent. Component A) is preferably an amino-modified polydimethylsiloxane which is composed of recurring units of the formulae <IMAGE> and the end groups (CH3)3Si- or -O-Si(CH3)3 and whose amine number is 0.05-0.5. Component B is preferably an alkylphenol (C12-18 in the hydrocarbon radical) with 7-15 ethylene glycol ether groups.
