摘要 For propelling boats and ships, if need be also land craft, by wind force, cloth or plastic sails are normally used. Water craft with sails of this type require, for example, numerous operating persons for setting the sails, are very restricted in their operating area to the wind and have a poor ratio of propulsion force and drift force. The said problems are solved in particular owing to the fact that profiled sails (rigid sails with aerodynamically favourable shape; see Figure, items 20a and 20b) are connected to the mast (item 1) at a distance from it and are pivotable about horizontal sail pivots (item 3). The pivoting capacity enables the curvature directions of the profiles to be reversed by rotating the profiled sails through 180 DEG about the sail pivots, which enlarges the operating area to the wind compared with other sail systems. To disengage the wind propulsion, the profiled sails are turned through 90 DEG about the sail pivots. All rotary movements of the profiled sails can be carried out fully automatically since the profiled sails are of rigid design. <IMAGE>
