A bipolar plate for a fuel cell stack comprises parallel anode and cathode side part plates with surface sides (13) and at least one edge fluid port region (25,26) from which fluid passes through a distributor (15) to fluid channels (19) on at least one of the surface sides and then out of the channels through a collector (16) to a fluid port region. The distributor and collector are arranged asymmetrically with respect to one another. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell stack comprising the above plate.
