The invention concerns a lightweight material containing blown perlite, alka li silicates and optionally additives of hardeners for aqueous alkali silicates, the expanded perlite having a grain size of betwee n 0.8 and 6 mm. The material further contains a water-repelling agent, and the apparent densities range from 60 to 500 kg/m3.
