PURPOSE:To obtain a metallic thin film magnetic recording medium having a protective layer excellent in corrosion proof, running performance and durability with very thin thickness by providing a plasma polymerization layer to a high polymer support base having a ferromagnetic metallic thin film and providing a lubricated layer comprising a certain kind of compound on the plasma polymerization layer. CONSTITUTION:The thickness of the plasma polymerization layer is 20-270Angstrom , and when the thickness is increased over this range, the spacing loss is increased and when the thickness is decreased, the performance of corrosion proof is decreased. As a monomer used for the provision of the lubricated layer 1>= kind of compounds selected from a group of compounds having a carbon-carbon unsaturated group at the end of the monomer and >=8 of carbon numbers are used. Excellent electromagnetic converting characteristic is obtained and the performance of corrosion proof, running and durability are improved by providing the sliding layer comprising the compounds, and this is because a radical active layer produced by plasma polymerization is reacted with the carbon-carbon unsaturated bond to form the lubricated layer bonded strongly on the plasma polymerization layer. |
