A dishwasher and a control method thereof are provided to contain a wine cup in a wine rack by mounting the wine rack at a side wall of a tub, and to decrease consumption of washing water and power by operating a lower nozzle only during the wine cup washing mode for cleaning the wine cup. A dishwasher includes a tub having a washing tub, and a wine rack(20) installed at a side wall of the tub. The wine rack is extended to the front and the rear part of the tub, and an upper rack and a lower rack are contained in the upper part and the lower part of the tub. The wine rack is installed between the upper rack and the lower rack, and provided with a storage hole(21) containing part of a wine cup and an insertion hole(22) containing the wine cup in the storage hole. The wine rack is separated from the side wall of the tub, and a wine rack assembling part is mounted at the side wall of the tub and combined with the wine rack.
