A variable antenna matching apparatus in a sliding-type mobile terminal and a method thereof are provided to enable a sliding-type mobile terminal to transmit and receive optimal RF signals, regardless of the opened or closed state of a slide part, by optimizing an antenna impedance characteristic which is changed by a ground area varied according to the opened or closed state of the slide part. A variable antenna matching apparatus in a sliding-type mobile terminal comprises a slide open/close detection part(130), a voltage control part(140), and a variable antenna matching part(150). The slide open/close detection part(130) detects and outputs the opened or closed state of the slide part of the mobile terminal. The voltage control part(140) outputs a preset voltage value according to an open/close signal from the slide open/close detection part(130). The variable antenna matching part(150), receiving the output voltage of the voltage control part(140), varies the antenna impedance of the mobile terminal.
