PURPOSE:To produce a high-MW polyamide, by polycondensing by heating an at least partially acylated organic diamine with a polycarboxylic acid in a specified reaction solvent. CONSTITUTION:An equimolar mixture of an at least partially acylated organic diamine component containing at least 30mol% diamine of formula I (wherein Ar1 is a 6-20C (un)substituted bivalent aromatic group) and a polycarboxylic acid component containing at least 30mol% aromatic polycarboxylic acid selected from among 2-20C aromatic di-, tri- and tetra-carboxylic acids and/or an at least partially acylated aminocarboxylic acid component containing at least 30mol% aromatic aminocarboxylic acid of formula II (wherein Ar2 is a 6-20C (un)substituted bivalent aromatic group) at 180-300 deg.C in a sulfolane reaction solvent in an amount such that the concentration of the formed polyamide is 4- 60wt%.
