A mobile terminal and a method for operating the same are provided to prevent a caller's unnecessary call attempt, in case that a receiver is abroad, by enabling the caller to attempt a call connection after confirming whether a remote mobile terminal is using a domestic service or an overseas roaming service. A mobile terminal comprises an output part(40), a communication module(20), and a control part(10). The communication module(20) provides a communication interface for communication with a remote mobile terminal connected to a mobile communication network. In executing a call connection with the remote mobile terminal through the communication module, the control part(10), based on the MCC(Mobile Country Code) of the remote mobile terminal, judges whether the remote mobile terminal is using an overseas roaming service, and displays a result through the output part(40). The mobile terminal compares the MCC of the remote mobile terminal, delivered through a base station, with a stored MCC and confirms whether the remote mobile terminal is using an overseas roaming service.
